The 2013 Vintage Bazaar will take place July 27 through Aug. 3 in the Berman auditorium and lobby.
If you’ve visited the Bazaar before, you know this is no garage sale. The items, many offered by museum members and community friends, are high-quality keepsakes, many holding memories members are often willing to share. Museum volunteer Lynne Isom calls the assortment of trinkets, collectibles, books and antiques “treasures you can part with.”
At previous sales, especially prized items have included a silver service and full set of china, hand-embellished linens, vintage costume jewelry, 1950s collectibles and a fine wooden music box. The truth is, there’s no telling what you may find amongst the assembled items. Shop for yourself, or browse for gifts for friends and family.
For those of discerning taste, fans of the unique, or lovers of history, the Vintage Bazaar represents the best of specialty “boutique” shopping. In addition, it is an important fundraising event presented by Berman Alliance, the museum’s membership and volunteer organization. A portion of proceeds benefits Berman’s general budget, so your purchase benefits the museum as well.
As one might guess with such an ambitious sale, it takes a small army of volunteers to get items arranged, priced and sold. However, many hands make light work. Among the dedicated workers who are helping make this year’s sale run smoothly are Joy Burgess, Craig and Susan Waldron, LeAnn O’Neal, Louise Lokey, Martha Merrill, Joel and Nancy Denney, Lisa Davis, Bettye Kreh, Alice Walker, Sarah Ballard, Sylvia Brooks, Dan Mason, Robin Cooper, Linda Mann, Joyce French, Linda Harvey, Ed Harris and, of course, Isom.
Beginning July 27 shoppers may browse the eclectic assortment anytime during regular museum hours: Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, 1-5 p.m. It’s free to browse the offerings — it’s only if you wish to venture into the exhibit halls that an admission fee will be charged.
