A 35-year-old woman was charged Thursday with breaking into her ex-husband’s home and demanding money from him last month.

Rachel Coppock, 35, of Anniston, turned herself in at the Anniston Police Department and was charged with first-degree burglary, a felony.

Coppock broke into her ex-husband’s home on the 3800 block of Knollwood Drive on July 24 and demanded he give her money, according to Anniston police Capt. Allen George. The 30-year-old victim told Coppock she needed to leave, George said.

Shortly after, another man, with whom the victim and Coppock were acquainted, entered the house, George said.

According to the captain, the male suspect put a handgun to the victim’s head and said, “You’re going to pay her the money or you’re going to die.” Coppock calmed the male suspect down, George said, and the three walked outside.

While outside, the man hit the victim in the face, George said.

The victim ran inside, called police and locked himself in the home, George said.

While the victim was waiting for police to arrive, the male suspect forced his way into the home and caused $100 in damage to a door, according to a police report.

Both suspects fled the scene before police arrived and nothing was taken from the house.

The victim required no medical treatment, George said.

George said today that police were still searching for the male suspect.

Coppock was released on a $10,000 bond from the Anniston City Jail on Thursday. A court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 26.
