Masters of the late-inning rally as they captured the Alabama Dixie Youth Baseball AAA state championship, Piedmont’s 9- and 10-year-olds ran out of comeback magic Monday evening.

The Bulldogs fell to the North Carolina champions 12-6 and were eliminated from the Dixie Youth AAA World Series in Laurel, Miss.

Batting as the visitors, Piedmont took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Noah Reedy stroked a leadoff double and Jack Hayes walked. Max Hanson’s two-out RBI single scored Reedy.

North Carolina tallied twice in its first time at bat but Piedmont knotted the score 2-2 with a run in the top of the second. With two down, Jakari Foster walked. Slade Haney reached on an error, and Omarion Foster came through with an RBI single.

Piedmont did most of its damage in the third after holding North Carolina scoreless in the second. Reedy and Hayes walked then Steven Raney singled up the middle to load the bases with no one out. Silas Thompson drove in two runs with a single. Hanson’s ground out to first base plated a run and Cassius Fairs earned Piedmont a 6-2 lead with a sacrifice fly.

The four-run advantage didn’t last long. North Carolina got three runs in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth.

Raney, Hanson and Omarion Foster each had two hits. Reedy, Thompson and Jakari Foster had one hit apiece.
