Anniston police on Thursday were investigating a report in which a 22-year-old man said a group fired guns into his car as he drove it.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said none of the gunfire hit the driver.

Sparks said the victim was shot at on Aug. 1 while driving his 2000 black Lincoln Town Car. Sparks said the victim was driving between 19th Street and Davis Avenue around 9 p.m. when the shooting occurred. The victim did not file a police report until Wednesday, Sparks said.

Multiple suspects fired several shots at the car, Sparks said.

Bullets damaged the car’s computer system and front passenger tire, according to a police report. The damage is valued at $1,750, the report noted.

Michael Kirksey, the victim, said he believes the shooting was gang related. Kirksey said he believes he was targeted because the suspects got into a fight with his cousin five months ago.

“I was scared and shocked. I just want the police to get them all off the streets before they end up killing me or somebody else,” Kirksey said.

Sparks said he could not confirm or deny the shooting was gang related.

Sparks said Thursday morning that police were still investigating the shooting and no arrests had been made.
