Tide hoops team now 2-0 in Europe

After a blowout victory in its first game, the Alabama men’s basketball team needed a late run to defeat Gembo 86-79 in Antwerp, Belgium, on Monday night.

The Crimson Tide used a 13-4 run late in the fourth quarter to propel them to 2-0 on its European Tour, which includes an 85-68 victory over Meppel (Netherlands) on Saturday night.

Senior guard Trevor Releford led the charge with eight of his game-high 24 points during the spurt, including a pair of 3s. Releford also added a team-high six assists and two steals.

Junior forward Nick Jacobs added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, including 12 points in the second half. Junior guard Rodney Cooper collected 11 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Shannon Hale added six points and eight boards in the victory.

Sophomore guard Retin Obasohan, a native of Antwerp, Belgium, finished with six points, three assists and three steals. He played in front of approximately 100 of his friends and family.

The Tide will have a quick turnaround as it plays the Antwerp Giants II on Tuesday at 7 p.m. local time (noon CDT).
