Eight years ago, my husband and I fell in love with one of Christine Avenue’s historic homes and moved from our Oxford community to the center of Anniston. We love our neighborhood, its towering oak trees, our early morning walks on the city sidewalks and the convenience of living in the very heart of things. It’s because, make no mistake, Anniston — with its courthouses and legal community, hospitals and medical community and status as the county seat — remains the heart of Calhoun County. For our county to be all that it can be, we must keep the heart beating.

If we are to fulfill the promise that began with last year’s city election, “One City, One Vision” must be more than a slogan. We who call Anniston home have a rare and timely opportunity to shape a brighter future here. The process for creating a community-driven strategic plan has begun, but it will take all of us to bring it to reality.

Join the One City, One Vision movement. Attend one of the public workshops scheduled for mid-September to let your voice be heard and visit oneanniston.org to learn more. Let’s not miss this opportunity to change Anniston’s future together.
