“Thursday’s going to be just like a practice day to us,” Spring Garden head coach Jason Howard said of the jamboree. “We’re going to look at it like a scrimmage. We’re just going to do a regular full-pads week.”
The Panthers continue to need as much practice time as they can find. With so few veteran players returning, teaching even the basics takes time.
“We’re just trying to get better every day,” Howard noted. “We have so many young ones, just inexperienced ones. This is probably the least amount of stuff that we’ve gotten in going into the season in a long time just because of the learning curve. We’re so inexperienced that we’re just having to take it a little slow and add a little bit to it every day.”
There were some positive signs in the Spring Garden practice camp last week.
“Thursday and Friday were two of the better days we’ve had,” Howard said. “It was real sluggish at the first of the week and we changed some things up just trying to get them moving a little more. At the end of the week, I thought we had two really good practices.”
