This is the time of year I feel sorry for anyone in our area of the world who doesn’t like college football.

Trust me, this isn’t some rant about how great college football is that anyone who isn’t on board must be an idiot.

Far from it. The folks who don’t care for college football might be the most sane and balanced individuals in our state.

But so many Alabama citizens at least enjoy following the sport casually. So many people take sides, even if they can’t name more than five players on their favorite team. So many folks watch the games at least enough to join the conversation, even if they don’t have a great passion for the sport.

The ones who pay attention to kickoff times for Alabama, Auburn or Jacksonville State only because that’s a good time to go grocery shopping … well, it can’t be fun to be excluded from the conversation. It’s as if everywhere you go, everybody is talking a language you don’t understand and don’t care to learn. In fact, you wish everybody would quit speaking that language.

That’s a shame, because it’s never fun to be excluded from the conversation.
