Prep volleyball: Oxford wins in five sets

Oxford’s volleyball team came from behind to win a Class 6A, Area 13 match at home Monday, beating Clay-Chalkville 25-9, 23-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-10.

Breanna Nolan led the winners with nine kills, nine digs and four aces, while Lexie Higgins had eight kills, eight digs and two aces.

Makenzie Trantham had eight kills, and Katey Skinner contributed a team-high 15 assists and six digs.

Oxford (4-3) won’t get much of a break. The Yellow Jackets will play again Tuesday at Pell City.

Faith Christian 3, Wellborn 0 -- At big night from the service line by Kirstin Cotton helped Faith Christian sweep visiting Wellborn on Monday.

Cotton had 12 aces and also recorded seven digs. Madison Stephens had seven kills and five digs for the winners, and Hannah Turner added six kills and six digs.

Faith (5-3) plays in a tri-match today at Ranburne against Ranburne and Piedmont.

Sand Rock 2, Donoho 0; Donoho 2, Cedar Bluff 0 -- At Cedar Bluff, Sand Rock edged Donoho 26-24 in the opening game, then won 25-19.

The Falcons rebounded with a 25-8, 25-16 win over Cedar Bluff.

For the day, Rylee Segrest had 37 assists, 14 digs six blocks, five digs and three aces for Donoho (8-2). Corey Phillis had 22 kills, 22 digs and eight blocks. Hannah Christian contributed five kills, seven digs and three aces.

Donoho will travels to Pleasant Valley today to play Saks and Jacksonville.

Ohatchee 3, Sacred Heart 0 -- Ohatchee won 25-18, 25-20, 25-22 with 21 team kills.

Morgan Lee and Kaelin Cobb each had 14 digs. Mattie Coger had 17 assists.

The Indians play Ragland on Tuesday.
