The shirts are green with gold writing. In other words, they look a lot like similar shirts Notre Dame fans wore a year ago.
It’s unfair to slam the two Oregon students for selling these shirts, as one of the Ducks’ players, Derrick Malone Jr., apparently did on Twitter, calling the idea, “Dumbest thing I’ve EVER seen.”
Hey, if they’re making money, good for the students. The shirts are harmless enough, and it’s good to see students figure out a way to turn Oregon’s football success to their advantage.
But as for the people who buy those shirts and sincerely believe the message, keep in mind that it’s not good to focus on one particular opponent.
You still have UCLA, Stanford, Oregon State and a possible Pac-12 Championship Game. And we’ve seen before that as the season goes on, your Oregon team doesn’t look so fast and mighty in your spread offense.
What’s the old saying? Speed gets tired, but muscle doesn’t shrink.
Besides, who’s to say Alabama will get there? What if LSU wins out? What if the ACC, Big Ten or Big 12 champ is undefeated and nobody from the SEC is?
Maybe Oregon should worry about getting out of the regular season and the Pac-12 Championship Game alive. Then you can worry about who’s in the BCS National Championship Game.
