And the Taste of Calhoun County winners are…

In between networking and checking out the exhibits at last week’s Regional Business Expo, hosted by the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce, attendees also got to sample the local foods in the annual Taste of Calhoun County.

New to the Taste event this year, secret shoppers were sent out to all participating restaurants to rate everything from the food to the service to the atmosphere. And the Taste of Calhoun County winners are:

• Best Wings — Thai One On

• Best Sandwich — Cuban, Peerless Saloon & Grille

• Best Pizza — Baked Potato Pizza, Mellow Mushroom

• Best Chicken — Fajita Chicken, Red Pepper Grill

• Best Dessert — Pecan Bars, Too Nice Too Slice

• Best Authentic Dish — Roasted Corn & Mushroom Risotto with Pork, Prime Dining & Bar

• Best Tasting Experience — Prime Dining & Bar

The winner of Best Lunch and Best Dinner was voted on during the expo and the award for both went to Peerless Saloon & Grille.

Festive eats and spooky drinks downtown Saturday

Noble Street is the place to be Saturday for anyone alive or undead.

The inaugural Neewollah on Noble runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Anniston with traditional fall fest foods like funnel cakes and fried Oreos, plus a cupcake walk, trick-or-treat parade and specials at participating downtown bars and restaurants. And because it is still a fall Saturday in Alabama, enjoy tailgating finger foods while catching the SEC Game of the Week on the Jumbotron in the 1100 block of Noble.

Then stick around later that night because the annual Noble Street Zombie Pub Crawl begins at 9 p.m. at the Cheaha Brewing Company, where the living can kick things off with a Zombie Vaccine Jell-O shot and the undead can get the party started with a Zombie Brain Hemorrhage shot.
