Wednesday was the best of days, and the worst of days:

Fortunately, I did not require stitches.

Unfortunately, I had to spend an hour in the after-hours clinic to find that out.

Fortunately, my husband agreed to drive me to the clinic, even though he didn’t think I needed stitches.

Unfortunately, I didn’t listen to him.

Fortunately, my husband did not gloat.

Unfortunately, this did not make me feel better.

Fortunately, I was not using the really sharp kitchen knife.

Unfortunately, I never did get to eat that apple.

Fortunately, the bleeding stopped quickly.

Unfortunately, not before I had to hear that “I am the Ghost of the Bloody Finger” joke about 10 times.

Fortunately, the nurse bandaged and padded my finger so nicely that I couldn’t even bend it.

Unfortunately, it was my middle finger.

Fortunately, I could still type.

Unfortntat3ly, not very well.

Fortunately, I was supposed to keep my finger dry for a couple of days.

Unfortunately, this meant I could not wash the dirty dishes.

Fortunately, the power was back on by the time I cut my finger.

Unfortunately, the Crock Pot that was cooking dinner was not.

Fortunately, I was in the car when the power went out.

Unfortunately, I was at a busy intersection trying to get to the grocery store.

Fortunately, the power was back on by the time I finished my shopping.

Unfortunately, the grocery store cash registers hadn’t rebooted.

Fortunately, I caught an error in a work project just before it went to the printer.

Unfortunately, it took so much time to fix the error that I didn’t have time to eat dinner.

Fortunately, there was enough food in the house that I could make myself a quick snack of cheese and sliced apple.
