The second round of the high school football playoffs in Alabama begins in a few hours, which means hundreds of teenage boys across the state will don their gear for a sport many of us adore.

Nevertheless, statistics show that the number of children who are playing football each year is declining, which many attribute to the rising concerns about head injuries. According to this story in The Atlantic, which used data from ESPN's Outside The Lines, Pop Warner football has suffered a two-year decline of more than 23,000 players. If that continues, it does make you wonder about the sport's future for the next generation.
