It was all smiles for Miles Clark, Katie Neisler and Dominique Thomas as they signed their national letters of intent early this morning and were recognized at 8 a.m. in the school gym to loud cheers from their classmates. The scene will be much the same at schools around the county, the state and country today as high school athletes officially choose their college teams.
Neisler, an outside hitter, signed a volleyball scholarship with Samford after being committed for more than two years, following her sisters, Elizabeth and Caroline, who were both members of the team there. Clark made it official with Florida Tech, and Dominique Thomas signed with Central Arkansas.
Neisler was the Anniston Star’s Class 4A-6A All-County Player of the Year this year after recording 787 kills, 92 blocks, 82 digs and 35 aces while leading Jacksonville to the Class 4A state championship. She was also the tournament MVP.
Thomas, a running back for the Golden Eagles, rushed for 1.859 yards and 24 touchdowns his senior year. He averaged 7.4 yards per carry. Clark, who played tight end and middle linebacker, was an All-County honorable mention.
