MUNFORD -- Monteo Garrett, Tavon Lawson and Earl Moss came prepared this morning, each one giving a speech in front of teammates and classmates before signing to their future schools.

In a National Signing Day ceremony at the Munford High gym, Garrett, a quarterback, signed with Jones Community College in Mississippi. Lawson, who plays safety, signed with Chattanooga, and Moss, a defensive end, signed with Miles College.

“These are three of the best players and three of the best people I’ll ever coach,” Munford coach Will Wagnon said. “They were a vital part of his program and where it’s gone.”

Garrett threw and rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each category for the second season in a row last fall, while earning a spot on the Class 4A all-state team.

Lawson recorded 42 tackles, including 31 solos, forced five fumbles and intercepted a pass as a senior. Moss made 36 tackles, including eight for a loss, and three sacks.
