Officials with AAA Alabama and the Calhoun Chamber of Commerce attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new location next to Publix at the Oxford Exchange. Clay Ingram, a spokesman with AAA Alabama, said the new office is 2,400 square feet, exactly double the size of the previous Oxford location east of Quintard Mall. The new site will employ four travel agents and four insurance agents compared to just two each at the old office.
“It’s a much more comfortable atmosphere,” Ingram said at the opening ceremony. “We’re continuing to grow, and we need a space that’s inviting for our customers.”
Ingram said the location change is the second upgrade AAA Alabama made this year after expanding its Mobile office. He said the organization will also bring an office to Bessemer before the end of the year, making 11 offices throughout the state.
Al Gibbs, vice-president and general manager of AAA Alabama, said the company has more than 20,000 insurance customers in east Alabama, and the growth has rapidly increased in recent years. Six years ago, only two insurance agents worked for the company in the state of Alabama, he said. Today, there are 40, including four at the new Oxford location.
“We want to have more visibility,” Gibbs said on the location change. “The challenge we face is letting people know we’re here and they can access us, ask questions face-to-face and in-person.”
Ingram said it’s not just AAA members who can take advantage of the location. Travel agents are available to non-members, and a Hertz rental car service is also located at the office for travelers.
The new location is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.
AAA is a not-for-profit organization that provides customers with roadside assistance and other services. The company had 51 million members in the United States as of 2010, according to its website. AAA opened its first office in Calhoun County in 1928.
