Re “Calhoun County GOP leader steps down” (News article, Feb. 5):

I want to thank Calhoun County Republican Party co-chairman Tony Moreland for his absolute brilliant quote in The Star’s article.

I’d like to repeat it here just so we can experience it again: “We want to thank President Barack Obama for making this a watershed year for the Republican Party.” Simply breathtaking in both meter and approach. Poetry doesn’t have to rhyme to be effective as Moreland clearly demonstrates — in fact, it doesn’t even have to make much sense at all — as was probably his intention.

But to evoke emotions, like this simple-minded ditty, is what art, language and culture strives to be and for that, Mr. Moreland, sir, I would like to start the slow hand clap for you as you rise to the top of your perch by preaching to those who want to hear just what you said. Your star is about to shine.
