If you enjoy the Calhoun County basketball tournament each year at Jacksonville State, you should check out Thursday's action at the Northeast Regional.

Plenty of familiar faces will play that day at JSU, which hosts the regional.

White Plains' girls begin the day at 9 a.m., facing Plainview in a Class 3A game. They haven't played in the Northeast Regional since 1996, which is before at least a few of the current players were born.

Both the girls and boys teams from Saks will be at JSU for 3A games. The last time boys made it in the same year was 2006 when the Saks edged Anniston in overtime in the 4A boys final. The same two teams met in the 4A girls final, with Anniston winning by two points.

This time, Saks' boys play Geraldine at 10:30 a.m., while the girls face Holly Pond at noon.

Weaver's boys have advanced to the 3A regional for the second straight year and will face Holly Pond at 1:30 p.m.

Anniston High's boys and girls -- winners of their respective divisions at the county tournament -- will play that day, too, in 4A games. The girls face Randolph at 3 p.m., followed by the boys' game with Guntersville at 4:30.

Jacksonville's girls, state champions two years ago, will face Madison County in a 4A matchup at 4:30 p.m.

Hokes Bluff and Madison County will end the day at 7:30 p.m. in a 4A boys game. There's a reason to watch that one, as well. Hokes Bluff features 7-foot-2 center Jacob Haas, a Purdue signee and a bright basketball prospect.
