AUBURN — Heavy rain and lightning on Friday washed out the second game between Auburn and Alabama with the Tigers ahead 3-1 in the fourth inning.

The two teams will resume play today at 11 a.m. and pick up where they left off. The final game of the series, which is set to start at 3 p.m., will only be a seven-inning affair.

In the unlikely event the early game can't be completed by 2 p.m., it will resume after the completion of the 3 p.m. game, which will be televised by Fox Sports South.

Auburn (30-24, 10-18) is hoping for sweep on Saturday to keep its razor-thin chances of an NCAA regional berth alive. The Tigers have already been eliminated from the Southeastern Conference Tournament field.

For the Crimson Tide, two wins today would mean nothing more than momentum heading into the tournament.

Auburn put three on base in the bottom of the first inning to grab a quick 1-0 lead.

After leaving two runners on base in the second inning, Alabama left three more runners in the third as Josh Rutledge struck out with the bases loaded against Auburn starter Grant Dayton.

The Crimson Tide scored its lone run in the third on an RBI-double by Clay Jones.
