Police said the victim was looking for a friend at the Cooper Homes apartments around 5:25 a.m. when a man approached him.
The victim told police the man told him to hand over his money.
Thinking it was a joke, the victim turned to leave, and the robber shot him in the back.
The man was treated at the Regional Medical Center and released.
