JSU athletic teams suffered a 21-point drop between their fall and spring semester grade point averages, but overall the Gamecocks finished the year with a 2.83 department-wide GPA.

Men's basketball (2.46) and football (2.28) both dipped below 2.50 in the spring — after posting 2.64 and 2.56, respectively, in the fall — but neither occupied the bottom spot in the unofficial athletic department academic race. That distinction went to men's cross-country, which posted a 2.18.

Volleyball once again topped the semester chart with a 3.57, and had the highest GPA for the academic year (3.60). Not surprisingly, it had the best multi-year APR in the department (978).

For the spring semester, 12 of 15 teams were at 2.6 or higher, with five coming in better than 3.0. For the academic year, 12 teams were at 2.8 or higher and all 15 were above 2.4.
