HUNTSVILLE — And the North domination continues.

A sweep — by scores of 2-1 and 9-7 — in the softball doubleheader in the Alabama All-Star Sports Week gave teams from the North five wins through the first three days of competition.

Defensive plays kept the North alive as it trailed nearly throughout the second game. Two runs in the sixth tied the game at 7-7 and two more in the top of the seventh were enough for the sweep and a 20-6 advantage in the overall series. The two split the past three All-Star Week series.

More than anything, this week was about meeting new people and having a good time. The team went to see the new Transformers movie on Tuesday and killed time walking around Bridge Street Town Center in Huntsville.

“All the girls were great,” said Speake’s Sarah Bolan who hit .420 on a state championship-winning team as a junior.

“We all bonded really well together. I came in not knowing anyone and we all just formed together.”

With several college coaches in the crowd, Wednesday’s game also provided an opportunity to play into scholarship possibilities.

All-Star Sports Week continues Thursday with volleyball and boys and girls volleyball. The volleyball game will be played at 2 p.m. at Sparagins Hall.

The basketball will be played at the same site with the girls playing at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 8.
