One of the first things he did was to have an oncology center built to take care of cancer patients. He then had a new building erected for Anniston Family Practice. He had the old nurses' quarters building torn down and replaced by a seven-story physicians' center complete with a parking deck and a helicopter port. Then he set about building the Tyler Center with state-of-the art equipment and a parking deck for those in need of the special care and services housed in the center.
The old east wing of the hospital was beyond repair. It was replaced with an up-to-date women's and children's center. The surgery department, same-day surgery department, outpatient department and emergency department were all enlarged and upgraded. During this time, the staff was provided with continuing training to maintain and enhance their professional skills.
I am sure the entire community wants to join me in thanking Allen Fletcher for his many years of dedicated service and providing us with what now truly is a Regional Medical Center.
