Forecasters at the National Weather Service say we can expect more torrential rain and the potential for severe weather today and tomorrow.

Mark Rose, meteorologist at the weather service’s Birmingham office, said as much as 2 inches of rain fell across portions of Talladega County this morning. Rainfall estimates from the weather service’s observation site at Anniston Metropolitan Airport were not immediately available.

In their mid-morning weather outlook statement, the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., called for a slight risk of severe weather throughout Alabama, Mississippi and much of the central gulf coast region.

“We’re looking at the possibility of issuing a flash flood watch, because we’re expecting pretty good amounts of rain in the next 24 hours,” said Rose.

Rose said another 1 to 2 inches of rain could fall as a storm system makes its way into the area overnight into Friday.
