An Oxford woman was free on $2,500 bond Wednesday after police said she punched an Anniston police officer in the face the night before.

LaDonna Hardy, 39, was arrested Tuesday night on charges of assaulting the officer at Skate Country near the first block of Old Gadsden Highway, police said. She is charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and obstructing government operations, a misdemeanor.

The officer was off duty at the time, but still in uniform. The incident took place while the officer was trying to break up a fight he observed between two males in the parking lot of the skating rink, police said.

While the officer was pulling the two fighters apart, a woman began pushing him away from them, the officer said. When he stopped dealing with the fighters and began turning to face the other person, she punched him in the right side of the face and ear, according to police reports.

Hardy's court date is Sept. 11.
