JACKSONVILLE — So this is what all the hard work was for. Free tuition. Free room and board. And a shiny red laptop. Talk about the college experience. Steve Whitton, English professor at Jacksonville State University, presented the first group of Elite Honors Scholarship recipients on Tuesday. Eight freshmen at JSU were awarded the prize, which was based on high school GPA and college entrance test scores.
