Alabama State Troopers spokesman Charles Joiner said the Department of Transportation notified them of the road closing shortly before 9 a.m. this morning. The road was reopened around 9:30 a.m.
Rainfall covered the roadway near mile marker 148 at Lincoln, Joiner said.
Two inches of rain fell at the National Weather Service’s observation site at Anniston Metropolitan Airport between midnight and 6 a.m. About an inch of that total fell during the 3 a.m. hour, resulting in a weather service flood advisory for most of east Alabama during the early morning hours.
The weather service says showers will remain a possibility in the area through 1 p.m. with a 30 percent chance of rain, with partly cloudy conditions tonight. Rain remains in the forecast Thursday through the weekend.
