The program was piloted in Calhoun County in 1964 and has continued in the state since that time.
Through EFNEP, thousands of homemakers have learned to prepare healthier meals, have become better shoppers and have implemented good sanitation practices learned from food safety lessons. Assistants with the Alabama cooperative Extension System deliver the EFNEP curriculum.
Shears has worked with the program for almost 24 years.
