BAND Band Director: Pam Smith

A few words from the band director on the 2009 outlook: "Without a doubt this has been one of the best summers in the history of the band. The students have been a true pleasure to work with this year. They have put forth their best effort each day of summer practice with no complaints or issues. Their dedication to musical excellence makes my job easy and fun. The members are excited about the marching season and want to make this one of the best years to date and with this attitude it will be!"

Number in band: 24.

Class breakdown: Three seniors, seven juniors, seven sophomores, three ninth-graders and four eighth-graders.

Section leaders: Matt Tippens, instrumental captain; Geoffrey Garrett, percussion captain; and Ashley Metcalfe, auxiliary captain.

Drum major: Brianna Welch.

Head color guard: Ashley Metcalfe.

Halftime show: For the 26th year the Pleasant Valley Marching Band will present an award-winning musical performance. The theme for the 2009 marching show is "Songs of Africa." Musical selections will include "Africa," "African Bamba," a percussion feature "Cheetah" and "Over Africa."

2009-2010 competition plans: The Pleasant Valley Marching Band will be supporting the Raider football team at all Pleasant Valley football games. In addition, the band will be competing in marching band competitions on Sept. 19, Sept. 26 and Oct. 31. Additionally, the band will be performing in the Calhoun County Band Exhibition, the JSU Homecoming Parade and the Jacksonville Christmas Parade.

Booster club officers: Kimberly Brunni, president; Gail Watts and Christina Johnson, vice presidents; Lisa Metcalfe, secretary; and Lisa Metcalfe, treasurer.

CHEERLEADERS Varsity football cheerleading squad: Kristi Browning (captain), Chelsea Green and Hillarie Poole (co-captains), Brooke McCurdy, Brandi Scott, Angel Runyan, Rachel Ward, Tonja Catchings, Krissy Tillison, Katie Huddleston, Holly Johnson, Chandler Burgess, Jordan Cash and Sierra Langley.

Awards: First Place in Home Pom and Cheer Camp Champs, Second Place in Dance; Brooke McCurdy and Hillarie Poole were selected UCA All-Star Cheerleaders and asked to try out for the UCA staff next summer.

Varsity cheerleader sponsor: Shaa' Bolt.

Junior high football cheerleading squad: Blakeli Bolt and Meghan Shackleford (captains), Kelsey Feiner, Ashley Drury, Kaci Johnson, Ashley Wright, Melina Greenwood and Allie Battles.

Awards: Received all Superior ribbons, Second Place in Cheer; and Blakeli Bolt was selected UCA All-Star Cheerleader.

Junior high cheerleader sponsor: Krista Walker.
