Nov. 26, 1934, in The Star: Anniston High School's final football game of the season is to be this Wednesday, Nov. 28, against Gadsden. It's an away game, so the squad will leave at 11:30 a.m. and students will be let out of school at 1 p.m. so they can form a giant motorcade and get to the game in time for its 2 p.m. kickoff. Enthusiasm will be stoked starting the night before, with a pep rally and bonfire that Mayor Coleman has said he will attend. Also this date: Anniston elementary school teachers gathered at the high school this afternoon for one in a series of "grade group meetings." Today's topic was children's character education through play, and how traits of good character, such as honesty, courtesy and obedience, can't be instilled through books but only from directing students along the correct path in everyday activities.

Nov. 26, 1984, in The Star: The Anniston High School PTA, recently revived after a long period of dormancy, held its first meeting Nov. 19. Four parents and two administrators showed up — despite the interest that around 100 parents professed to have had in October. "We feel like it's still a beginning," said Ralph Bradford, a parent who is leading the effort. He indicated the group would try to do a better job of notifying members for the next meeting, which will be in January.
