An 18-wheeler struck an Oxford school bus and a utility pole this afternoon, blocking traffic near the crash site and knocking out power for nearly 300 Alabama Power customers.

There were no serious injuries reported.

The collision happened around 3:20 p.m., and occurred at the intersection of National Drive and U.S. 78 in Anniston, when the truck made a wide right turn and hit the back of the bus, said Anniston police Sgt. Scott Grissom. No serious injuries were reported, but two children were taken to the hospital with minor injuries for precautionary measures, he said.

After hitting the bus, the truck hit a utility pole, police said.

At 5 p.m., 284 Alabama Power customers were without electricity because of the wreck, said Brandon Glover, spokesman for Alabama Power.

He said power will probably not be restored to those customers until midnight or later

Traffic to the area will be blocked until a new power pole can be erected, police said.
