JSU’s Carstensen and Dardas headed to NCAA rifle tournament

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State’s Brian Carstensen and Andrea Dardas have been selected to compete as individuals at the 2010 NCAA Rifle Championships on March 12-13 in Fort Worth, Texas on the campus of TCU. Carstensen and Dardas will compete in the smallbore competition that will be held on March 12.

Carstensen returns to defend his 2009 NCAA Smallbore National Championship that he won with a 95.2 in the finals, finishing with an aggregate score of 682.2 on the day. JSU also claimed the NCAA Team Smallbore title that day and held the overall lead going into air rifle before finishing third overall.

Carstensen has competed in all 14 events this season with a 580.2 smallbore average, targeting a 582 at last week’s NCAA Sectionals in Murray, Ky.

Dardas has shot in the last six events after missing the first part of the season with a knee injury and has a 577.8 smallbore average and totaled a 581 at last week’s sectionals.
