I just had to pass on my compliments to The Star on the story regarding Judge Joel Laird's financial difficulties.
It is easy to accuse The Star of bias coverage with a slant toward Democrats, but this work by reporter Patrick McCreless absolutely refutes that and is excellent writing.
While I sympathize with Laird, a sitting judge — especially an elected one — must handle himself and his affairs in a matter that is above question, suspicion and reproach. It is very difficult to understand what has happened here, but surely it must be resolved quickly. Keep up the good work.
