MONTGOMERY — Former banker Young Boozer has taken an early lead over one of Alabama’s most recognizable political names, George Wallace Jr., in the race for state treasurer.

Boozer had more than 60 percent of the vote with about half the precincts reporting Tuesday night in the unofficial count.

In the Democratic Primary for treasurer, retired banker Charley Grimsley also had about 60 percent of the vote and a comfortable lead over Oneonta attorney Jeremy Sherer.
