The last statement of the letter by Olivia Turner, executive director of the ACLU of Alabama, “Arizona needs to be shown the Constitution,” applies to her, as well. Plus, she needs to be shown the Arizona law.
If Turner has reviewed the Constitution, she would have learned that the oath taken by the president says, “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
There are federal laws (passed by Congress and approved by the president in keeping with the Constitution) that require that legal foreign aliens keep their documentation on them. (I have traveled on five continents and this is a requirement worldwide.) Plus, federal laws also require the terms outlined in the Arizona law. In fact, the federal law was a source document for the Arizona law.
In other words, because President Obama failed to do his job and keep his oath, Arizona stepped in and filled this void.
The truth of the matter is that if an illegal immigrant enters the United States legally and abides by the laws of the United States — they do not rob, kill, rape, etc. — then they will have no problems.
