Taylor Jordan Towns received her doctor of veterinary medicine degree, magna cum laude, from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, May 8.

She is a 2004 graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts in Birmingham and received her undergraduate degree in animal sciences from Auburn, graduating summa cum laude in 2008.

While an undergraduate at Auburn, Towns served as a university ambassador; was inducted into Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society and Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society in 2007; and upon graduation in 2008, was awarded Auburn’s Comer Medal for Excellence in Animal Sciences.

After entering the College of Veterinary Medicine, she was inducted into Phi Zeta National Veterinary Honor Society in 2011.

While in the College of Veterinary Medicine, Towns participated in research projects in the Department of Clinical Sciences, presenting the findings to the 16th International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society Conference in San Antonio, Texas, and to the Morris Animal Foundation Trustee Meeting in Dallas, Texas, both in 2010.

She is certified in Technical Emergency Response Techniques by the Department of Homeland Security and holds memberships in the student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the American Association of Bovine Practitioners and the International Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.

While in final-year clinical practice at Auburn, Towns worked in externships with the Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas in Dallas; the Tennessee Equine Hospital near Nashville; and The Animal Hospital of Oneonta in Alabama.

After graduation, she will practice veterinary medicine at Branchville Animal Hospital near Birmingham.

She is the daughter of former Anniston residents Tim and Debbi Towns, now of Birmingham; the granddaughter of Francis Hickman of Anniston and the late George C. Hickman; also the granddaughter of the late Odis Towns and the late Tera Towns Burns.
